HEY LISTEN! I am Ben Carter aka, The Southern Fried Chef. To my family of five little ones, I’m “daddy” and to one amazing wife, “Bennie Buns.” Growing up in North Texas as the older of two boys, I started the way most chefs do, in the family kitchen!

After high school I tried college, after two semesters of stinking out at remedial math, I knew it wasn’t for me! So, I did what any logical college dropout would do, I shook hands with UNCLE SAM for a vacation to basic training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. For the next four years I proudly served while longing for the days of being back home, experimenting in the family kitchen.

Fast forward a few years, and a couple children later, I walk the stage as a graduate of the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu culinary school (shout out to Chefs Roxy and Shelby).

One year later, I am holding the keys to the space in Canton that will become Buttermilk’s and the beginning of “The Southern Fried Chef.”

Four and a half years of preparing southern favorites for such a quaint east Texas town, has been a dream come true. Now, I want to share my love of humble foods with each of you!

I hope you will find the Southern Fried Chef a place to find recipes, connect with the simplicity of life, and a way to slow down and enjoy our universal language, FOOD!

I cook on Channel 7 once a month

Tell us about your family.

ANSWER:

I have been married 16 years to a beautiful woman, Brandy. We have a small zoo at home, 5 kids, 4 dogs, 1 cat and 4 chickens. Plus the neighbor's goat when the kids have chips.

What do you do for fun?

ANSWER:

I love to hunt, fish and build campfires with my kids

QUESTION:

How do you like your steak?

ANSWER:

Medium rare.

Coke or Pepsi?

ANSWER:

Coca Cola, it's my favorite!

What is your favorite fried food?

ANSWER:

Favorite fried food is of course donuts and fried chicken (at the same time is cool too).

Whom do you admire?

ANSWER:

My Dad is a natural chef and my personal hero.

ANSWER:

Green Bay Packers!

What is your favorite music?

ANSWER:

I love country music.

Write a cookbook in 2018, be on Diners, Drive In, and Dives, and meet Pioneer Woman

ANSWER:

Steak and Mediterranean foods.

Name a place you have traveled?

ANSWER:

I lived in Germany for two years and ate cultural food every day and loved it. My favorite German food is Schnitzel (fried pork).

Biggest regret?

ANSWER:

My one regret in life fish more with my grandpa before he passed.

If you could cook for anyone person, who is it and why?

ANSWER:

It would probably be Jesus, He would secretly know all the right flavor profiles to make a great dish. Kosher of course!

What is something you are excited about?

ANSWER:

I am starting my own line of beard oil!

ANSWER:

Red of course

Cast iron skillet of course!

Close quarter combat training.
